Field Work

Participant recruitment has ended in November 2016.

Recruitment procedure had the following steps:

 

INFORMED CONSENT AND QUESTIONNAIRE

To participate in the NSS 2015-2016 it was necessary to give a written consent by signing the informed consent form. After that, information on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics was collected in a proper questionnaire.

BIOLOGICAL SAMPLES COLLECTION

For this study was needed a blood sample, and in the case of adult participants we also asked for a urine sample.

BENEFITS

Participants are going to contribute to acquisition of knowledge that aims to benefit themselves and the entire Portuguese population. The knowledge acquired in this study is essential to choose which vaccines should be included in the Portuguese National Vaccination Programme, as well as the age and number of doses to be administrated.

 

ETHICS

This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge and has authorization from the National Data Protection Commission. It is absolutely guaranteed the confidentiality of participants identification and anonymity of results. Who performs the laboratory tests and data analysis will not have any knowledge of the participant identification. Participation was voluntary, and the participant could refuse to participate at anytime, without further explanation or consequences.
